What is this dog?

We have no idea what is the genetic make up of our dog.  The SPCA made a guess, but the adoption counselor and the vet both disagree.  He is about 22 pounds, and has thick hair with the same consistency as a German Shepherd.  He is very much a herder, as often in the park he will circle around me and Pedram until we are in the same area.  He has a white patch on his chest, which reminds people of a retriever.  He definitely has instinctive retrieving gene and fetch is his favorite game.  Then occasionally we’ll get the “oh is he part coyote?” or “he looks like a dingo!”, but he doesn’t exhibit any wild animal traits.

And all of these guesses seem incorrect because he is a smaller dog.  We still are clueless on what type of mix makes up Rusby.  This last week, when we had the annual dump of snow, we started worrying about his behavior outside — would he be comfortble in the snow?  Would he be warm enough?

Seems like we had no reason to worry, we had never seen Rusby so excited as when he first got out in the snow.  He loves to bury himself in the snow — digging his head deep into the snow and searching for things.  He suddenly becomes a big tracking dog, lowering his head to the ground and sniffing around everywhere.  So now people are guessing that our dog is part husky.  You can be the judge.
