Another cold rainy day in Brussels, which makes me think about summer in Seattle. If I was in Seattle, and the weather was nice, here are the things I would do.
Go to a Mariner’s Game
The kettle corn, hot dogs, garlic fries, crazy Mariner’s fans, abundant Japanese tourists who go crazy when Ichiro is up at bat, the train that run down the stadium, the team I grew up with. Can’t say I love the sport, but I love the atmosphere. Every year I try to make it to at least a few games at Safeco field, especially when it is sunny.
Fish tacos from Aqua Verde
This restaurant is sitting on Lake Union, where you can fight birds and sit outside on their deck while watching the boats and kayakers. I love their fish tacos, their summery drinks, their sassy attitude, their self-serve salsa bar. Good mexican food in the summer can’t be beat.
Kayaking or canoeing
I love going out on the water, but I am over the powerboat thing. Kayaking at the arboretum is cheap and just wonderful. Don’t mind that you have to kayak under highway, but you can get lost in the swampy, birdy, turtle-y, nature. Once I saw an otter and freaked out so bad that I refused to go swimming for the next few days. Otters, beavers, whatever. They are scary. One time, Mandy and I brought a watermelon (cause we both love watermelon) and parked on a little island to eat the watermelon, and then we lost our canoe. I think Mandy swam to get it, cause I was still afraid of the otters.
Seafair
I won’t be able to do Seafair justice. Blue Angels, hydoplane races, sitting on the water, the crowds, the bbqs. Nuf said.
